Lester Piggott’s riding is legendary but, in 1992 he re-wrote the record books when riding his thirtieth and final Classic winner at the age of 57 aboard Peter Chapple-Hyam’s brilliant 3yo Rodrigo de Triano.

‘Rodrigo’ has already stamped himself as a 2yo of the highest calibre but, has been beaten first time out as a 3yo in the Greenham trial at Newbury…and then Lester took over!

Riding the son of El Gran Senor for the first time in public in the Two Thousand Guineas, Lester immediately struck up a formidable relationship with this super tough individual. Settled out the back by Lester, Rodrigo cruised up to the leaders with just over a furlong to run and, when asked to quicken by the Maestro, he surged clear for a most emphatic victory, making history in the process

Subsequently successful in three more Group One events, The Irish Two Thousand Guineas, The Juddmonte International and the Dubai Champion Stakes, all under the Maestro, Rodrigo was retired to stud a champion.
